Spring is in the air and generally the abundant sunshine and warmer temperatures have an influence on some individuals. People feel good, and are ready to get out and “do”. Why not add another word to that and make it more about “doing good?” I wrote about this last year, when I was first introduced to the concept of “good works.” And since this month focuses on “Do Gooders,” why not take the abundance of opportunities spring offers to “Do Good”?
How can you incorporate more of this and what may be some reasons to do this? It is well known there is a mind-body connection, thus actions we take influence how we think and feel. “Doing Good” provides an opportunity to share our own abundance, in heath, wealth and compassion. If you’re out in your yard or mowing the lawn, maybe that is the good action you choose for your neighbor. Or maybe when you’re making a meal, you make a little extra to give to a homeless person, to a neighbor who is struggling, or to someone who lives alone. There are so many ways to be a “Do Gooder”, Opportunities are endless. And as a stress reliever, doing good for another, may also have a bonus benefit for ourselves.
One action I started last year, was to randomly send cards, through the mail to friends. I sent thinking of you cards and thank you cards, etc., which only takes a minute to write and provides me a satisfaction that differs from a gratification. You can learn more about strategies such as this one to reduce, manage, prevent and optimize stress by finding out all the exciting projects I’m working on.
