The political contenders who are the most conservative and hawkish bellow a mighty war cry but are veterans of no war. George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, and Donald Trump, all of whom mastered the art of serial deferments, squeaked out of going to the big war—back when real men were drafted to—the Vietnam War. Ironically, Trump has taken loud potshots at true veterans like John McCain and John Kerry, but he is has no business trying to be Commander-in-Chief. For all of his puffery, preening and pretentiousness, not to mention the unmitigated and ridiculous show of greed, the only war Trump has ever fought is in the green room backstage at CNN. Trump claimed his final deferment to get out of going to Vietnam was due to "heel spurs" in both feet. We’re glad to see Donald Trump is done stomping hard on the campaign trail. Goddamn those heel spurs!
